    Bay Leaves

And the million dollar question is, what exactly is a Bay Leaf and what do I use it for? Our answer, Braised Bay Leaf Potatoes!

Adding Bay Leaves to whatever you are cooking is pretty common. A recipe calls for it, you add it in, but who really knows what it actually does and what flavor it actually imparts. Here's the thing though, when you don't add a Bay Leaf, it's like really obvious. The dish lacks that umami, the je ne sais quoi, the what is that flavor, flavor. It's challenging to pick out the flavor of Bay Leaf in a dish, but when it is not there, you really notice.

So we advise that you add them! In fact, ground Bay Leaves are a common ingredients in several of our seasoning blends. Turkish Bay Leaves have a deep aroma and hearty flavor that round out the finish of food, making them a key ingredients in our seasonings and a perfect pairing for potatoes.

And who doesn't love a good potato dish? You can basically do anything with a potato including living off them if you need to. They also can be transformed in to just about anything as well. Eat them cut, fried, mashed, creamy, smooth, chopped, hashed... the options go pretty far.

When it comes to side dishes, a boiled or steamed potato is a definite go to. Pour over a killer sauce and you have yourself a grand slam.

We started cooking potatoes in just a couple inches of water as a way to speed up the process of heating a giant pot of water to boil only a few potatoes. Then we tasted our experiment. It's a kill two birds with one stone kind of situation and a very good idea. This recipe for braised bay leaf potatoes is definitely worth a try!

Not only are the potatoes perfectly cooked, the incredible flavor from the Turkish Bay Leaves and smooth sauce from the olive oil will have you hooked. Simply, they are incredibly delicious and really easy to make.

    Description

And the million dollar question is, what exactly is a Bay Leaf and what do I use it for?

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 3 lbs. red potatoes
    • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
    • 4 MarnaMaria Turkish Bay Leaves
    • 3 tbsp. olive oil
    • ½ cup chicken stock
    • ½ cup water
    • 1 tsp. kosher salt
    • ½ tsp. ground black pepper

    Instructions

    1. Place the potatoes in a large dutch oven or heavy saucepan, forming a single layer of potatoes. If the potatoes are large, cut them into about 2-inch pieces.

    2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the potatoes: garlic cloves, MarnaMaria Turkish Bay Leaves, olive oil, chicken stock, water, salt and pepper. (You can substitute water for the chicken stock if needed.)

    3. Cover and bring to a simmer over medium high heat, and let cook for 5 minutes.

    4. Gently stir potatoes with a spoon to evenly distribute braising liquid.

    5. Lower the heat to low and cook until the potatoes are fork tender, about 30 minutes.

    6. Season as needed, remove the Turkish Bay Leaves and discard them.

    7. Serve the potatoes hot with the braising liquid as a sauce.
